Ukraine is ahead of Russia in the production and use of FPV drones, while the situation with fiber-optic drones remains unfavorable for Ukrainian forces
This was stated by military expert Oleksandr Syrskyi during a recent meeting with Ukrainian media representatives. It is important to note that journalists from "Ukrainska Pravda" and "Interfax-Ukraine" were not invited to the event, which may raise additional questions regarding the objectivity and transparency of the information. According to him, at this stage, the Ukrainian side has a significant advantage in the number of FPV drones — these unmanned systems are actively used in combat operations, performing important reconnaissance and strike functions. At the same time, Syrskyi emphasized that the enemy is actively and intentionally working on strengthening their forces in this area, and remains far from passive. Russian military forces have already achieved certain successes in the production and application of fiber-optic drones, which have notable advantages in range and navigation stability. "Unfortunately, they have an advantage here both in quantity and in the range of use of drone systems," Syrskyi pointed out, adding that the Russians are already deploying fiber-optic drones at distances of up to 40 kilometers from command positions. This poses additional challenges for Ukrainian troops and requires them to respond as quickly as possible and seek new technological solutions. Therefore, measures are being taken in Ukraine to accelerate the production of appropriate drones with fiber-optic cables up to 20 kilometers in length. Syrskyi noted that there are already enough manufacturers on the market working on increasing the range and efficiency of Ukrainian UAV control systems. This, in his view, is an important step to bolster the country's defensive capabilities and reduce technological dependence on foreign suppliers. Thus, the current situation demonstrates that Ukrainian military forces have significant potential to gradually gain an advantage in the FPV drone field. However, the fight against Russian military technologies continues, and the enemy invests substantial resources in developing more complex drone control systems, including those utilizing fiber-optic technologies. This poses new challenges for Ukraine but also encourages active research, manufacturing, and intelligence efforts in the field of unmanned systems.
