Russian military forces have once again carried out an attack on Sumy, causing a large fire and destruction

The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 17:30 local time, when unmanned aerial vehicles known as "Lancet" were used by the aggressor. This marked the third attack in the past day, and according to local authorities, it again confirmed the ongoing pattern of active and targeted assaults by Russian troops across Ukraine. According to Oleg Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the strike was aimed at civilian infrastructure in the city — in particular, one local enterprise. Preliminary reports indicate that the kamikaze drone was deliberately launched from a "Lancet" drone, noted for its high precision and ability to penetrate even urban shelters. As a result of the attack, a building caught fire; fortunately, there are no casualties in this part of the strike. Rescue services are currently working to extinguish the fire, with the goal of quickly controlling the flames and preventing further damage. Eyewitness reports state that about an hour after the first strike, Russian troops reopened fire on Sumy — this time using a drone that dropped munitions onto the residential sector. According to initial information, residential buildings in the Dolyvno district were damaged during the second attack: a multi-story building had its roof damaged and about 20 windows shattered. After the attack, all necessary services—including firefighters, medical personnel, and law enforcement—arrived at the scene to organize evacuations and provide assistance to the affected residents. The city authorities of Sumy affirm that repair and recovery work is ongoing, and residents are receiving all necessary support. According to community representatives, as of Saturday evening, the situation remains tense but under control. Meanwhile, the local infrastructure has suffered significant damage, complicating daily life for residents. Overall, it should be noted that these attacks are not the first in recent months targeting Sumy. The prelude to this was a nighttime attack on June 19, when Russian drones also struck the regional center — resulting in a large fire that was quickly localized. However, these recent assaults serve as a reminder of the ongoing threat to peaceful civilians and the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure. Local authorities urge residents to stay calm and follow the instructions of emergency services, while the international community continues to condemn Russia’s aggressive actions, emphasizing the need to strengthen defensive measures and support Ukraine in defending against external aggression.
