Friday evening brought yet another disturbing news to the residents of Sumy — the city was again subjected to provocative and dangerous strikes, causing significant damage to infrastructure and leaving civilians scarred

According to official information, Russian occupiers used a "Lantset" unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) to attack the regional center of Sumy, which sadly resulted in injuries to one woman and damage to residential buildings. The Main Department of the Military Administration of the region reported that the drone operation took place on Friday evening, when military personnel and civilians were already preparing for evening activities and rest. Law enforcement and city security services responded promptly to the threat — operational work to eliminate the attack’s consequences began in the evening, including damage assessment and clarifying the extent of destruction. According to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the strikes specifically targeted the city’s central district. As a result of the attack, roofs of two oil neighborhoods and about 20 windows in two five-story residential buildings were damaged. The aftermath included significant destruction, such as broken window frames, torn roofs, and damaged facades. This creates additional danger for residents and raises concerns about safety in the areas affected by the strikes. The most alarming news is that a 75-year-old woman was injured during the attack, as she was at home in her apartment at the time. Fragments from the drone’s debris penetrated the wall and entered her dwelling, causing shrapnel wounds that required urgent hospitalization. Medical professionals provided her with necessary aid; her condition is currently stable. However, her health has been affected, and she will remain under medical supervision. Law enforcement agencies and the military administration emphasize that this attack is yet another sign of increasing aggression from Russian forces, which continue to use drones and other means to intimidate and destroy Ukrainian cities. A criminal case has been opened regarding the violation of state borders and the attack, in accordance with Ukrainian legislation. Local authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and follow safety recommendations, as the threat of further shellings and missile strikes persists. They promise to strengthen security measures and reorganize emergency response services for the prompt elimination of consequences of potential future attacks. This event once again reminds us of the undeclared war that has been ongoing for over a year, and expresses support to all those remaining in the epicenter of danger, especially the elderly, who are experiencing the latest armed attacks particularly hard. Ukraine is committed to protecting its citizens and standing firm against any manifestations of Russian aggression, aiming for a quick and decisive response to this merciless war.
