In Ukraine, preparations are underway for new formats of returning the bodies of fallen soldiers from Russia, which will not be directly linked to the diplomatic negotiation process in Istanbul

This was stated by Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), during a telethon broadcast. According to him, the Ukrainian side has already received the bodies of 6,000 deceased Ukrainian citizens from Russia, many of whom were defenders of the country, although the process of identification and verification is still ongoing. Yusov noted that currently, work is being carried out to identify the bodies, coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During this process, maximum accuracy in identifying individuals is ensured, which will help prevent errors and facilitate more structured repatriation. It is important to emphasize that this work is not halted and will continue regardless of diplomatic agreements, including those reached during the Istanbul meeting. Yusov emphasized that the new format for returning the bodies of the fallen has long been disconnected from negotiation frameworks. He added that the latest repatriation took place on June 15 and was carried out using rail transport. In the future, similar processes will be conducted using road transport, which may include various routes and logistical arrangements, depending on the situation and security considerations. It should be noted that this is part of ongoing efforts to resolve the issue of returning the bodies of Ukrainian defenders held in Russia and occupied territories due to military actions. The repatriation process has become especially relevant and has generated significant public resonance, as every detail of this work is extremely important and sensitive for the families and loved ones of the fallen. Ukrainian officials emphasize the importance of transparency and respecting the rights of the families of the deceased during the identification and return process. Given the many uncertainties and risks of errors remaining in the system, ongoing work with experts and human rights defenders must ensure adherence to all standards. Thus, the Ukrainian authorities are preparing to develop new approaches to the issue of returning the bodies of heroes and believe that, moving beyond diplomatic arrangements, the process will become more flexible and effective, ensuring proper honoring and fulfilling the duty to those who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence.
