Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, upon returning from an important visit to Canada, issued a final message in which he emphasized that his team received and approved a number of specific and significant decisions aimed at strengthening the country's defense capabilities and increasing international diplomatic and financial support in the fight against Russian aggression. According to a statement released on the official resources of the head of state on Telegram, a key decision was to increase military aid to Ukraine. Zelensky stated that this would be implemented through new aid tranches financed from the frozen assets of Russia. He also mentioned additional sanctions measures against the aggressor country, targeting to deliberately "slow down financial flows" that support the replenishment of the Russian military machinery. "We have achieved an important declaration and confirmation that our Western partners not only seek to support Ukraine's defense now but also envisage a joint recovery of the country after the war ends," Zelensky underscored. He added that the willingness of the global community to assist Ukraine in building pre-war and post-war security architecture, which will form the foundation for future stable peace, is also crucial. What preceded these statements? According to Reuters, participants of the G7 summit held in Canada could not agree on a joint statement regarding the situation in Ukraine due to disagreements and opposition from the United States. Meanwhile, insider information indicated that Zelensky altered his plans and shortened his visit to Canada to return to his homeland, where challenging issues and new diplomatic tasks awaited him. According to official information, during the summit in Canada, U.S. President Donald Trump unexpectedly left the Western platform earlier than planned. His decision to stay in Washington, Trump stated, was driven by the need to monitor developments in the Israel-Iran conflict. At the same time, in his address to forum participants, Zelensky emphasized that the United States has all the capabilities to force Russia to cease its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and that this requires increasing cooperation with former President Donald Trump. Regarding immediate financial and military steps, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced assistance to Ukraine totaling over 2 billion Canadian dollars (more than 1.48 billion USD). This amount includes drones, helicopters, and ammunition — everything that can bolster the combat readiness of Ukrainian forces. Moreover, Canadian diplomatic and security services highlighted that this aid is one of the most important measures of sanctions pressure on Russia since its large-scale invasion in 2022. No less significant was the decision announced by the United Kingdom, which on June 17 officially introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia. This is part of a targeted policy of pressure on the aggressor country aimed at reducing its ability to wage war, decreasing financial flows, and blocking Russian resources. Additionally, during the G7 leaders' meeting in Canada, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called for strengthening international pressure on Russia, emphasizing that only coordinated actions by all allies can compel the Kremlin to reconsider its aggressive intentions and return to diplomacy and compromise. Thus, the outcomes of Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Canada once again confirm that the global community does not intend to leave Ukraine alone with Russian aggression. On the contrary — it is actively preparing for the next stages of support and reconstruction of the country to ensure its security and economic future after the war ends.
