As a result of the court proceedings, the politician was sentenced to nine years in prison with the confiscation of all his property in connection with a case of obtaining unlawful benefit. Sources report that the decision was announced on June 18 by the Higher Anti-Corruption Court, and its verdict caused widespread public resonance. The court ruling states that the former official was found guilty of committing criminal offenses under Articles 368 Part 4 and 263 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Accordingly, Holovko will be held responsible for unlawfully receiving benefits and illegal possession of weapons. Specifically, the court sentenced him to nine years of imprisonment with a ban on holding positions in state or local government bodies, except for elected offices, for a term of three years. Additionally, the verdict includes the confiscation of all property belonging to Holovko, aiming not only at punishing but also at preventing similar actions among other officials. This court decision marked the final stage in a long-standing fight against corruption in the higher echelons of power in Ternopil region. An investigation and the process in the Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) lasted for months, during which compelling evidence of the former deputy’s unlawful actions was collected, including facts of receiving monetary compensation for facilitating issues within the council’s jurisdiction. It is important to note that this case has become a landmark for the Ukrainian justice system. It demonstrates that even high-ranking officials who abused trust and served the interests of corrupt schemes will now face real punishment. The VAKS decision is viewed as a signal to other officials that corruption is unacceptable and will be punished severely, regardless of status or position. Local civic activists and anti-corruption organizations have already expressed their support for this course of action, emphasizing that justice in this case should serve as an example for others. At the same time, experts remind that fighting corruption is a long-term process, and vigilance is necessary to ensure transparency and accountability across all branches of power. Thus, the decision of the Higher Anti-Corruption Court regarding Mykhailo Holovko represents an important step forward in strengthening Ukraine's legal framework and combating unscrupulous officials. During the hearings and trial, considerable emphasis was placed on the need to enhance the anti-corruption system and approaches to prevent future violations.
