The former U.S. president and presidential candidate Donald Trump recently spoke with journalists near the White House about new diplomatic initiatives from the Russian leader. According to him, Vladimir Putin allegedly offered his assistance in settling conflicts in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Iran. At the same time, Trump advised his Russian counterpart to initially address domestic matters, including ending the war in Ukraine. He stated that during a phone call the day before, the Russian president expressed a willingness to mediate in the region, aiming to facilitate de-escalation. "I spoke with Vladimir, and he offered his help in mediation. But I told him: do me a favor — first deal with resolving the conflict at home," Trump noted. He emphasized that the first step should be to stop the war in Ukraine, which he considers key to stabilizing the situation in the region. The former president also expressed his belief in the possibility of finding a solution to the war within his own country. "I believe that we can figure things out in Ukraine —" as the "European Pravda" agency quotes him — "and after that, helping in the Middle East will be much easier." It is worth noting that earlier, Trump had spoken about his openness to mediating in the conflict between Israel and Iran, suggesting that Russian President Putin might also be willing to engage in such efforts. No official confirmations of this information have been received from the Kremlin so far. Publicly, the former U.S. president implied that resolving the Russia-Ukraine war should be the first step toward stabilizing the situation in the region and on the global stage overall.
