The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has updated information regarding the number of victims from a large-scale missile attack carried out by Russian invaders during the night of June 17, which caused significant destruction and human losses
According to official data, as of the evening of the same day, the number of fatalities resulting from the shelling increased to twelve people. Of these, ten were in the capital city, Kyiv, and two in the Odessa region, where rescuers and police continue to eliminate the consequences of the destruction and provide assistance to the affected. The Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, reported on his Telegram channel that as of 17:30, during search and rescue operations, the bodies of two victims had been retrieved from the rubble in Kyiv and Odessa. The number of identified victims often changes due to the complexity of the process and the possibility of discovering new body parts, which are subsequently subjected to forensic analysis. At the same time, final confirmation of the number of victims and their identification is carried out through modern DNA laboratory testing, performed by mobile laboratories, which allow for a precise determination of the victims’ identities. The ministry emphasized that rescue work to save the injured and search for missing persons continues uninterrupted. In Kyiv, rescue teams have begun to eliminate the consequences of destruction at two locations that experienced severe strikes. They work tirelessly under the rubble, constantly searching for living people and removing debris. The Minister of Internal Affairs added that the work is still ongoing, and there may still be injured or even alive people trapped under the debris whom rescuers are trying to locate and evacuate from the dangerous ruins. Specifically, dozens of rescuers and police officers are working in Kyiv and Odessa, coordinating efforts to quickly and effectively deliver victims to medical facilities and prevent additional casualties. The rescue operation for Ukrainians continues and remains one of the top priorities for local authorities and law enforcement agencies during these difficult hours. In Kharkiv, Lviv, and several other key regions of the country, appropriate investigative and emergency rescue operations are ongoing to address the aftermath of the enemy’s strike. It is expected that the number of victims may still increase, as search and rescue efforts do not cease, and each newly discovered piece of debris or missing person receives proper forensic examination involving specialists. The Ministry of Internal Affairs strongly urges Ukrainians to stay safe, follow official recommendations, and remain understanding of the complex situation caused by the latest attack of Russian occupiers. The authorities continue to exert maximum effort to quickly overcome the consequences of this tragedy and restore stability and safety for every citizen.
