This decision was made by the city authorities in memory of those who died and were injured in this tragic event, which occurred overnight on June 17. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, this day will be dedicated to honoring the victims of the enemy aggression. "June 18 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv. It is a day of grief and remembrance for those who did not stand in defense of our city and country. On this day, national and city flags will be lowered on all public buildings, and it is also recommended to extend this practice to private and government structures. This is a symbol of our solidarity and unwavering resolve in the fight for Ukraine’s independence and security," the Kyiv mayor stated. Additionally, on this day, all entertainment events and public festivities will be prohibited in Kyiv — theaters, concerts, festivals, and other mass gatherings will not take place. This decision was made so that citizens can deliberately and peacefully honor the memory of the fallen, express their grief, and remember those who sacrificed their lives to stop the enemy on our land. Regarding the scale of the tragedy, preliminary information indicates that Russian missiles delivered a powerful strike on Kyiv during the night of June 17. As a result of the shelling, 15 people were killed in the capital, and more than one hundred adults and children were wounded. The injured received necessary medical assistance, and the situation is under control. However, this tragedy once again demonstrated the high price the Ukrainian people pay for their independence and security. This tragedy serves as a reminder of the complexity and brutality of the military situation in the country, as well as the necessity of unity and firm support from citizens for the common victory and the return of peace to our homes. Kyiv authorities and civic activists call on Ukrainians to remember all those who perished with heroic prayer and remembrance on this day of mourning, because only together can we overcome these trials and put an end to this terrible war.
