German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed deep gratitude for Israel’s efforts in the fight against the Iranian regime, describing their activity as “dirty work” carried out by Israel for the entire global community
In his comments, he highlighted the importance of the steps taken by Tel Aviv within the framework of outrage-provoking and often provocative operations against Tehran, emphasizing that these actions are crucial for ensuring global security. According to Merz, the Iranian regime has been causing death and destruction not only in the region but worldwide for many years, supporting terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas, which serve as instruments of Iran’s foreign policy. He stressed that this regime is responsible for numerous terrorist acts, including the recent attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and pointed out that none of these consequences could have happened without Tehran’s support. "I can only express great respect for the courage of Israeli leadership and the military who decided on this unequivocal step. Otherwise, we could have been watching terrorist activity in the region for years, potentially with nuclear weapons in their hands," the Chancellor stated in his interview with ZDF. Merz emphasized that open dialogue and negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program remain the primary scenario to prevent further military conflicts. "If the Iranian regime is willing to engage in constructive dialogue, further military interventions will be unnecessary. Otherwise, the agenda will include the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear weapons development program," he underlined. It is also worth noting that recently U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly left the G7 leaders' summit in Canada to focus on the escalating situation around Israel and Iran. At the same time, he expressed the view that the path to peace and stability is only possible through the complete and fair resolution of Iran’s nuclear program. According to him, diplomatic efforts are of utmost importance in preventing conflict escalation and maintaining security in the region.
