Ukraine has successfully completed a large-scale operation to return the bodies of those killed in the war, conducted in accordance with the Istanbul agreements
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov reported that since the beginning of this important stage, immediately after the signing of the agreements in Turkey, the Ukrainian side has managed to repatriate over six thousand bodies of fallen military personnel and civilians to the homeland. According to the head of the Ministry of Defense, the final stage of body repatriation under this format took place on June 16, and now all the bodies are undergoing a meticulous identification process. Umerov emphasized that each body is not just a lost life, but also a name, a story, a family, and a homeland. Therefore, the process of return is not only a humanitarian necessity but also a significant symbol for the Ukrainian people, offering hope for justice and respect for the memory of the fallen. The minister expressed sincere gratitude to all those who participate daily in this difficult work, despite the challenges and emotional strain. He highlighted that the work does not end at this stage: Ukrainian military and diplomats face many more challenges ahead. In particular, efforts continue to recover prisoners — another priority for the Ukrainian state in its endeavors to bring its defenders home. Umerov added that Ukraine does not lose hope and memory of its heroes. "We are bringing them back. We remember..." he stated, emphasizing that each body returned is a vivid testament to humanity and the complexities of fighting for justice on this terrible front. This is yet another step toward restoring justice and reaffirming the indomitable Ukrainian spirit in the struggle for its citizens, as well as an effort for the world to maintain firm solidarity.
