The threat from dangerous territories in Sumy region has forced thousands of residents to take action to protect their lives and flee the conflict zone
According to the latest data from the regional military administration, over 60% of inhabitants from border communities have already left their homes in search of safety to avoid potential dangerous situations. This indicates a rapidly developing situation in northern Ukraine, where military and civilian authorities are entering a state of heightened alert. Oleg Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, announced on his official Telegram channel that more than half of the residents from the areas designated for evacuation have already left. He stated that out of 213 settlements affected by evacuation measures, all residents from 60 villages have fully evacuated their homes. This points to the scale and seriousness of the situation unfolding near the border. The main wave of evacuation is happening in two most intense regions — Sumy and Shostka districts. This week, over 400 people, including 26 children, were evacuated from border communities neighboring potential combat zones. Almost all of them are local residents who consciously made the choice to prioritize their family’s safety, leaving behind tense and uncertain conditions. Regions most affected by active hostilities have quickly emptied: residents are seeking refuge in safer regions or within the country. The evacuation process continues, and it can be confidently stated that the number of people wishing to leave the dangerous zone is only growing. This reflects not only a clear understanding of the need for protection but also systematic work by authorities, who actively coordinate and facilitate the transportation of people to safe areas. In this short period alone, more than four hundred residents, including a significant number of children, have been evacuated—underscoring the urgency of the situation. Communities across the country are approaching this crisis with seriousness and responsibility. Authorities urge residents not to delay and to consider evacuation recommendations to prevent possible tragedies. Additionally, an information campaign is ongoing in the region to inform the population about safety procedures and ensure a safe exit from the conflict zone. Overall, the situation in northern Ukraine remains tense, and each day is crucial in preventing human tragedies. Evacuation is not only a necessary measure but also a conscious step taken by residents who value their lives and the future of their children. All resources of the state and local authorities are continuously engaged to optimize the process and ensure maximum safety for the region’s population.
