The Embassy of Ukraine in Israel sharply condemned the “Axis of Evil” policy and called on the international community to take decisive action
Following the tragic events amid the Iranian attack on Israeli territory, the diplomatic mission of Ukraine in this country issued a strong statement, calling on the global community to unite and put an end to the prolonged policy of terrorism, which Ukrainian diplomats referred to as the "Axis of Evil." This appeal was made in the context of massive missile strikes that claimed innocent lives and emphasized, at the very least, the importance of joint efforts in confronting contemporary challenges. In its official message posted on Facebook on June 15, the Embassy of Ukraine expressed deep sorrow and condolences regarding the consequences of the Iranian attack, which resulted in civilian casualties. "We mourn the destruction and loss of life caused by Iran's attack on Israel. Innocent civilians, especially children, must be protected from all forms of violence and missile strikes. Right now, we stand with the Israeli people, experiencing this terrible reality, as Ukraine has been fighting similar aggression for over three years," the statement reads. Diplomats stressed that, despite its own challenges and difficulties, Ukraine is capable of and must serve as a voice for peace and justice on the international stage. They called on world leaders to unite and strongly oppose states that support this "Axis of Evil"—particularly the Iranian regime. They underscored that this is not only about defending the Israeli people but also about a global fight against the chain reaction of aggression triggered by these actions. It is well-known that Iran is a key supplier of Shahed drones and has been involved in Iran-Russia cooperation, with this weapon used in efforts to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure. Ukraine has long accused Iran of supplying such UAVs to Russia, which has posed serious security challenges. In addition to drones, there have been reports of Iran transferring ballistic missiles to Russia, further escalating tensions on the international arena. The background of the conflict is longstanding: on the night of June 13, Israeli forces carried out a missile attack in Tehran and other Iranian cities. According to official accounts, the Israeli military conducted a preventive strike aimed at disrupting Iran’s nuclear program and destroying military facilities of the regime. As a result, high-ranking Iranian military figures were killed, including Major General Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; Major General Gholamali Rashid, Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters; and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri. Several nuclear scientists were also killed, heightening tensions and anxiety about possible further actions. The reaction from the United States was swift: former President Donald Trump called on Iran to negotiate a new nuclear agreement, emphasizing that the time to sign it is still present and warning of possible consequences if no action is taken. However, the regime in Tehran responded massively to the Israeli strikes—on June 14, Tehran launched ballistic missile attacks on Israeli territory, resulting in at least two deaths and over 50 injuries, according to initial reports. The events escalated even further on the night of June 15, when Iran launched a new large-scale missile attack on Israeli territory, resulting in three deaths and over 200 injuries. Currently, more than 35 individuals are reported missing, and the number of casualties and destruction continues to grow amid the second-largest Israel-Iran confrontation in the region. Ukrainian diplomatic circles urge the international community not to stay on the sidelines and to increase pressure on countries that resort to disruptive military actions and policies of terror. While expressing condolences to the victims of the missile strikes, Ukrainian officials and embassies emphasize the need for coordinated efforts to counteract the global challenges facing the civilized world. Modern diplomacy calls for uniting efforts in the fight for peace and stability, which are now under threat due to escalating conflicts in the Middle East and on Ukrainian soil. This situation demonstrates that combating terrorism and the militarization of regions are not only internal issues of individual countries but also matters of global security that require consolidated efforts and responsible policies from the international community. Ukraine, still engaged in a prolonged struggle for independence and security, calls for decisive action to prevent further escalations and to save lives from the destructive consequences of modern military conflicts.
