In his evening address to Ukrainians, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the process of exchanging detainees between Ukraine and Russia is to be continued in the coming days. The head of state emphasized that this work is a priority in the effort to bring home all Ukrainians currently held in the captivity of occupying forces. As the president noted, active negotiations are ongoing with the Russian side to ensure the further implementation of agreements regarding prisoner exchanges. He indicated that there is a concrete intention and agreement that the next stage of exchanges will take place as early as next week. Zelensky expressed hope that Russian interlocutors will fulfill their humanitarian commitments as previously agreed, and that no additional delays or surprises will occur. In a conversation with Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, the head of state discussed the details of this work, outlining specific tasks and objectives aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the process. The president also highlighted the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts, stressing that these steps are essential to ensure further success in negotiations aimed at freeing Ukrainian citizens. It is reported that on Saturday, during an already fourth exchange in a week, several dozen Ukrainian defenders were able to return home, including notably those who fought in Mariupol and at Azovstal. Zelensky noted that this was made possible through coordinated work and diplomatic efforts. The president also emphasized the importance of providing medical assistance to the released fighters, as most of them sustained injuries and endured hardships in captivity. He stated that the condition of some remains very serious, and Ukrainian medical professionals are doing their utmost to treat and rehabilitate them. At the same time, he expressed hope that the exchange process will continue smoothly next week and that all humanitarian commitments will be fulfilled on time. Overall, Volodymyr Zelensky underscores the necessity of systematic and consistent work to bring home Ukrainian military personnel and civilians currently held in Russian captivity, assuring continued support for diplomatic tools to achieve this goal.
