Night Attack on Zaporizhzhia: Number of Injured Increases, More Than a Dozen Multi-Storey Buildings Destroyed
Last night, the city of Zaporizhzhia was once again subjected to a brutal attack by Russian occupying forces. According to official sources, by the morning, the number of casualties had significantly increased: as a result of the nighttime strikes on the city, at least four residents were injured, including two police officers and two women aged 62 and 74, respectively. All the victims were hospitalized, and medical personnel assess their condition as stable, though they remain under close supervision. The attack began around 2 a.m. and lasted approximately two and a half hours. Ivan Fedorov, head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported live on a telethon that the enemy used a number of Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles. According to him, the first wave of missile strikes was recorded at 2:00, and by about 3:30 a.m., a second phase began, during which at least eight drones were launched at the city. "This was a targeted terrorist strike that our city has endured once again. Unfortunately, four people were injured, including two police officers performing their duties, and two civilian women—one 62 years old with leg fractures and another 74 with injuries and bruises. They have been taken to medical facilities where they are now receiving necessary treatment," the regional head noted. According to the agency, during the nighttime attack, at least 20 residential multi-storey buildings were damaged. Most of them sustained various degrees of destruction, some significant. Notably, there were large fires resulting from the strike. Specifically, a humanitarian aid warehouse on the outskirts of the city was completely burned down. The fire was only extinguished after more than seven hours of persistent firefighting efforts. Preliminary reports indicate that at least a hundred tons of humanitarian goods were destroyed, which adds to the concern and exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the region. What preceded this missile attack? Recall that in the night of June 14, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on Zaporizhzhia using several Shahed kamikaze drones. This is not the first such attack on the city, reinforcing the pattern of aggressive actions by Russia and their deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure and the peaceful population. Earlier reports indicated that during this attack, several vehicles and civilian objects were damaged, and a humanitarian aid warehouse was destroyed—containing no less than a hundred tons of food and medicine. Overall, the situation in Zaporizhzhia remains tense; city officials and security services are urging residents to exercise maximum caution and follow safety protocols, as the enemy continues its provocations and acts of terror. The local authorities have already announced the need to strengthen the protection of residential neighborhoods and increase efforts to evacuate residents from areas of potential impact. Meanwhile, rescue services, doctors, and police continue working in the city, doing their utmost to eliminate the consequences of the night strikes and ensure the safety of citizens.
