According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), a large-scale operation prevented a potential terrorist act planned by a recruited Russian agent operating under instructions from Moscow. According to the law enforcement agency, the detained adversary is a 31-year-old citizen residing in the Odesa region. His role in the criminal scheme became known during the investigation that began immediately after receiving operational information. It was revealed that the man was recruited via the popular messaging app Telegram, where he received his first "test" assignment: to set fire to military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Only after successfully completing this assignment was he given further "instructions" to organize a larger and more dangerous attack. According to the investigation materials, the suspect was provided with a cache containing components for making explosives, which were intended to be placed in the most unexpected location — on a children's playground in one of Odesa's residential areas. The plan was for the attacker to plant the explosive device and later be able to activate it remotely using a mobile phone — a device specially equipped for this dangerous purpose. SBU operatives acted swiftly and bravely — they caught the criminal "red-handed" at the very moment he was placing the explosive device in the planned location. This was a crucial moment in their surveillance operation, which, according to preliminary data, aimed to eliminate a military serviceman performing his duties in modern Ukraine. After the suspect's detention, he was officially charged with several articles of the Criminal Code. He is accused of attempted terrorist act by a prior conspiracy of a group of persons, as well as intentional destruction of property through arson as part of a joint criminal plan, aggravated by obstructing the activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period. Given the severity of the threat, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention without bail, signaling the seriousness of national security concerns. The role of such special operations for Ukrainian security cannot be underestimated, as they demonstrate that the state is strengthening its position in the fight against external and internal enemies, striving to ensure peace and stability in the country. At the same time, this once again shows that the enemy uses any means and communication channels to achieve its goals, making active counter-terrorism efforts a top priority for Ukrainian intelligence and security agencies.
