According to official information, a 29-year-old Kharkiv resident with a prior criminal record unexpectedly confessed his intention to destroy the establishment’s property, taking advantage of the chaos among people. The incident caused significant resonance in the city, as the arson happened during an active phase of checking military registration documents. The offender then fled the scene in an unknown direction, leaving staff and visitors in a state of shock. As reported by the Kharkiv Region Police, the incident happened on June 11 around 19:20. At that time, the fire alarm alerted the authorities to a fire in the building of the district TCC. A forensic team and units of the State Emergency Service immediately arrived at the scene, quickly beginning firefighting efforts and organizing the evacuation of personnel and civilians. During a thorough search, police identified the perpetrator — a local resident who had previously served time for other crimes. Operatives, including those from the criminal investigation department, swiftly compiled materials to establish all the circumstances of the incident. According to their information, the man came to the TCC premises for a routine check of military registration documents. However, once inside, he took advantage of a moment when he was not monitored by the staff. In a secluded corner, hidden from the view of others, the suspect set fire to a cloth using a lighter. After the arson, he quickly fled — going up to the second floor and exiting the building through a window. His actions caused not only material damages but also psychological shock among those present. Within a few hours, law enforcement officers detained the suspect. He was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — deliberate destruction or damage to property. The penalty for this offense is up to ten years of imprisonment. Currently, the individual faces serious charges, and the investigation continues to clarify all details of the incident. As for the overall outcome: the fire at the city’s RTCC was a loud and unexpected event for everyone. Thanks to the quick response of rescue services and police, the fire was rapidly localized, and nearly all staff and visitors were evacuated. Law enforcement authorities are now making every effort to solve the case and prevent similar incidents in the future. Peaceful residents of the city have already expressed their outrage and concern regarding safety in their district, while investigators promise to continue vigilantly monitoring law and order and taking measures to prevent such violations.
