Citing official data from the Ukrainian General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Estonian Prime Minister reported that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the number of Russian military casualties has exceeded one million people. This is one of the most significant figures, reflecting unprecedented human losses in this devastating war, which has been shaking Europe and the world for over two years. In her speech, Kallas emphasized that for Putin, the lives of ordinary people mean absolutely nothing. According to the Estonian Prime Minister, the leader of Russia completely ignores human values and human lives, prioritizing his own aggression and imperial ambitions. “Since February 24, 2022, the Russian army’s losses in this war have already exceeded one million people. This is a terrible indicator, illustrating the ruthlessness and cynicism of those who lead the aggressor country,” Kallas stated. She added that official Moscow continues to ignore any genuine efforts to achieve peace in the region, merely pretending to be willing to negotiate. Such an attitude, she said, only exacerbates the humanitarian crisis and sustains a war that destroys the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians. The Estonian Prime Minister underscored that to achieve a just and stable peace, it is necessary to increase pressure on Russia, as only in this way can the aggressor country be compelled to stop and begin constructive dialogue. Kallas believes that international pressure is the only effective weapon in the fight for democratic values, freedom, and human lives. “We must act decisively and consistently so that Russia understands that the world is against its merciless war, and that it will have neither peace nor a chance to return to its former imperial ambitions as long as this war continues,” she stated. It is worth noting that this statement coincides with data from British intelligence, which also released numerous forecasts and alarming assessments the day before. In their recent review, they emphasized that since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, its losses amount to about one million troops—both killed and wounded. An important fact is that British intelligence experts do not rule out the possibility of even greater losses in the future. They forecast that Russia could suffer record losses in 2025, which would be another indication of how fierce and destructive this armed aggression is. Overall, the global community remains engaged and emphasizes the need to reinforce sanctions, put pressure on Russia, and support Ukraine in its fight for territorial integrity and security. Only through collective efforts can the bloodshed be halted and peace restored to Ukrainian lands, while simultaneously demonstrating that human lives are a value to be protected at all costs.
