According to Kyiv police, a 47-year-old resident of the city was detained during a special operation. The man is suspected of deliberately setting fire to a military vehicle on behalf of Russian special services in exchange for monetary reward. Information about the crime was disclosed by law enforcement sources, including the Shevchenkivskyi Police Department, which coordinated the arrest. According to the head of the department, Ihor Padyuk, the suspect was looking for a side job and came across a message on the Telegram messenger offering him a chance to carry out the act in exchange for a substantial sum of money. After agreeing and receiving the assignment, the malicious actor did not take his responsibilities lightly. At night, the man broke into the area where the military vehicle was parked and set it on fire. The flames quickly spread and extended to two other nearby vehicles. The criminal shot videos of the scene — recording his actions on his phone to include in a report for his superior — but he did not receive the expected payment. The suspect’s arrest was carried out as part of an operation conducted by officers from the Shevchenkivskyi district police and the Kyiv police headquarters, with assistance from analysts. Based on the collected evidence, he was informed of suspicion under part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional damage or destruction of property. This article carries a penalty of up to ten years in prison. The detained citizen is currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
