Ukrainian drones have once again targeted one of the key facilities of the Russian military-industrial complex
In the night of June 11, under cover of darkness, a series of loud explosions rang out at the Tambov Powder Plant in the city of Kotovsk, Tambov Region, prompting local residents to recall the dangerous days that have already become seemingly routine for the region. According to reports from curious witnesses and Russian Telegram channels, the number of explosions in the sky reached at least 15, while a loud air-raid siren sounded over the city. As of the time of publication, official information about the extent of the damage or potential casualties is not available, but preliminary data indicate an alarming situation. According to available sources, the targeted facility—the Tambov Powder Plant—is one of the most important enterprises in the region, specializing in the production of ammunition and explosive materials for various military systems. It is one of the largest plants in Russia in its sector, producing high-precision gunpowder, components for artillery, small arms, mortars, grenade launchers, and tank shells. Additionally, the plant manufactures critical components for explosives, such as nitrocellulose and kolloxylin—materials essential for modern military industry. The establishment of this facility dates back several decades, and over time it has become a key supplier for Russian army units. However, it is important to note that since March 2023, the plant has been under sanctions limiting its international operations and straining its economic stability. This, in turn, has heightened the interest of Ukrainian forces in striking this particular target. This is not the first time that Ukrainian drones have been tasked with hitting strategic objects. Previously, in January 2025, this enterprise was targeted—also in July 2024, and even in November 2023. It is said that such targets continue to remain an important element of Ukraine’s defense strategy, as destroying or damaging Russian military production facilities helps to curb the enemy’s combat potential. The next few hours brought many questions about the extent of the damage, but official statements from Russian authorities are still lacking. Meanwhile, the local community is anxiously awaiting any information, as these events point to yet another episode in the ongoing war Ukraine is fighting against Russian aggression, aimed at punishing and exhausting the occupiers’ resources. At the same time, this attack confirms the trend of increased nighttime operations by Ukrainian unmanned systems and their ability to repeatedly strike objects of strategic importance deep within Russian territory.
