Kyiv's Obolonskyi district remains an active combat zone and is still dealing with the consequences of a large-scale night attack by Russian forces. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, rescue crews have completed the main operations to eliminate the results of the shelling; however, there are still areas where firefighting and recovery efforts are ongoing. The impact of this nighttime strike remains significant. Official representatives of the State Emergency Service have stated that, as of now, most fires caused by the night shelling have been extinguished across the city. However, in Obolonskyi district, the threat persists: rescuers and equipment continue working to put out the fires at warehouses damaged during the massive attack. There, 29 firefighters and 8 units of specialized machinery are relentlessly combating the flames. Overall, as a result of the large-scale attack, significant destruction and civilian casualties have been recorded. Official data reports at least one civilian killed during the night shelling, with four others injured. The destruction affected seven districts of Kyiv, indicating the scale and targeted nature of Russian aggression. To assist the rescuers, more than 440 specialists and around 100 units of equipment—including fire trucks and specialized tools for debris removal—have been involved. The recovery work continues today, as fire hotspots and damaged structures still require attention. What preceded this? According to initial reports from the Air Forces of Ukraine, prior to the attack, Russian forces conducted another large-scale strike using various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles. It was noted that 315 Shahed attack drones and various models of drone-imitators were recorded in the night sky over Kyiv. Additionally, two KN-23 ballistic missiles and five Iskander-K cruise missiles were used. According to Ukrainian air defense sources, in response to this massive attack, Ukrainian forces destroyed all launched missiles and more than 213 UAVs. It is also reported that, using electronic warfare (EW) systems, some drones were suppressed; 64 of them were localized or lost. The attack resulted in damage at 11 locations targeted by Russian troops, and debris was found at 16 sites, highlighting the scale and sabotage intent of this night assault. This nighttime attack underscores the high level of threat posed by a new phase of Russian military tactics. Kyiv continues to be a central target of Russia's declared goal—destroys and intimidates through systematic shelling, aiming to sow fear and break the will of the Ukrainian people. Meanwhile, Ukrainian defenders and rescue teams act with maximum bravery and professionalism, doing everything possible to restore normal life in the city and halt the destructive pressure of the aggressor.
