The number of victims from this nighttime shelling has currently risen to three, but five more people could still be rescued from the rubble. Following this tragic event, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov announced on Telegram that everyone should expect prolonged and persistent search and rescue operations, which are ongoing around the clock. According to official information, rescue teams have reached another important milestone: the body of one of the deceased has been found under the ruins of a facility that was the target of the attack. This means the death toll has now increased to three. The mayor of the city, Ihor Terekhov, emphasized: "The process of unblocking and extracting bodies from the rubble is underway. Urgent work is being carried out, involving all available forces and equipment." He also stated that, based on preliminary data, five more individuals may be trapped under the debris and need to be rescued urgently. The background of this tragedy is as follows: on June 7, around 17:35, the enemy carried out a massive missile strike on Kharkiv, targeting mainly the Shevchenkivskyi and Kyivskyi districts of the city. The attack involved drones and guided aerial bombs. The enemy’s strikes resulted in the death of a 30-year-old employee of Ukrzaliznytsia, who was among the first victims of the attack. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that over 40 people in Kharkiv sustained injuries of varying severity. Later that evening, additional information confirmed that another victim had died in the city’s hospitals—a 62-year-old man. In addition, two other injured persons remain in critical condition. It was also revealed that among those seriously wounded was Volodymyr Kovtun, a former instructor at the children's railway; unfortunately, he did not survive the severe injuries. The shelling of Kharkiv on June 7 became one of the most destructive incidents in recent times, further confirming the ongoing threat and brutality of Russian military actions, as well as their deliberate tactics of destroying infrastructure and civilian lives. The city is operating in a state of emergency, and rescue services and law enforcement agencies are doing their utmost to save and assist the affected residents.
