Zelensky Names the Hottest Frontline Spot: What is Known About the Most Intense Battles Around Pokrovsk, Kursk, and Sumy Regions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on June 9 announced information about the most fierce battle zones on the current front, where the fiercest fighting continues and Ukrainian defenders face Russian invaders. This statement became another testament to the tense situation in the east and north of the country and demonstrates how crucial the actions of our military are in repelling the enemy. According to the head of state, the highest intensity of hostilities is observed in the Pokrovsk direction, as well as in areas where the Kursk operation is ongoing and directly in the border territories of Sumy region. Zelensky emphasized that Russian forces are using a "ruthless" attrition tactic, disregarding human lives, and actively trying to advance by conducting storm attacks on Ukrainian positions in all possible directions. Their goal is to achieve at least a small gain by any means, but, according to the president, the path to this is very difficult and dangerous for the enemy. "The most intense and fierce fighting is currently taking place in the area of Pokrovsk, as well as in the border zones of Sumy region and in the Kursk sector. The Russians seek to break through our defenses — they are attacking Ukrainian positions, advancing, and aiming to achieve any result, even the smallest. However, their potential is gradually exhausted. They are not capable of holding out and advancing further without significant losses. That is why our activity and certain gains are restraining their advance," — Zelensky’s press service quoted. The president particularly highlighted the important role of Ukrainian armed forces units defending the country in this hot sector. He expressed gratitude to the soldiers of the 117th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade, the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade, and the 80th Separate DShV Brigade for their courage and dedication. No less important roles are played by each unit operating in Sumy, Kharkiv, and this region, where active fighting continues constantly. Regarding the situation on the front line, earlier on Monday, the "Khortytsia" operational-command center reported significant enemy pressure along the entire length of the Pokrovsk direction. According to their information, over 50 combat encounters are taking place daily there, indicating that the high intensity of hostilities persists despite difficulties and losses. The situation at the front remains extremely tense. Ukrainian military forces are diligently holding the defense and demonstrating high combat readiness, preventing enemy breakthroughs and ensuring the security of internal borders. Zelensky underscores that Ukrainian tactics aim to minimize losses and maintain combat capability so that they are ready for active actions and response at any moment. Thus, the situation in the east and north of Ukraine remains extremely complex. Active hostilities, fierce battles, and the efforts of our military personnel testify to a prolonged struggle ongoing since Russia’s large-scale aggression began. Despite the difficulties, Ukrainian defenders are not losing morale and continue to stand firm, remembering that their bravery and courage are the key to the country’s independence and sovereignty.
