In his video address on June 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once again emphasized that the process of exchanging prisoners of war with Russia has begun and will continue for at least a few more days. The leader of the country highlighted the importance of maintaining informational secrecy regarding the details of the negotiations, as this aspect is fundamentally crucial for the effectiveness and security of the entire process. In his message, Volodymyr Zelensky underlined that the current stage is only the first in a series of planned agreements reached during negotiations in Istanbul. According to the President, this multi-step operation aims to free various categories of prisoners: both those who are wounded or seriously injured, and those aged 25 and under. He also expressed confidence that this process will be lengthy and will not be wrapped up immediately, as each stage requires a special approach and careful consideration. "The details of the process are quite sensitive, so we currently have less information than usual," Zelensky noted, and he thanked all Ukrainian services and international mediators involved in organizing the exchange and working to ensure that each of our prisoners can return home to Ukraine. These words reflect the high value placed on security and tactical caution during the negotiation process. What preceded these statements: on the eve, Monday, June 9, the Ukrainian side announced the start of a new stage of exchanges with Russia. The process involves several stages, and detailed figures regarding the number of Ukrainian prisoners released are kept confidential for security reasons. The first step coincided with active diplomatic efforts within the framework of the agreement. Concerning the number of those freed — among them are representatives of several security forces: the Navy, Ground Forces, Territorial Defence, Air Forces, Air Assault Forces, State Border Service, National Guard, and the State Special Transport Service. All of them have appeared as released servicemen, mostly from the rank-and-file and sergeant ranks. Overall, it is clear that Ukrainian authorities aim to maintain maximum control over the information flow, which plays an important role in ensuring security and stability. However, according to official statements, this secrecy is driven by the high sensitivity of the situation and the need to safeguard the lives and fates of those in captivity. That is why the details of each stage, the number and identities of those released, as well as the exact dates, are announced cautiously and with all necessary security measures taken into account. In general, the Ukrainian president reaffirmed the intention to continue working in this direction, with hope for the quick return home of all Ukrainian citizens currently in Russian captivity. This is not only a matter of diplomacy and security but also one of the main components of the state policy in the ongoing fight for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
