The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleg Hryhorov, has refuted any grounds for the urgent evacuation of residents from the city of Sumy and certain districts of the region
According to him, the situation at the border and in the front-line areas remains tense but under control by Ukrainian military forces and security structures. This allows us to avoid radical measures such as mass evacuation and maintain stability in the region. In a statement published on Telegram, the regional head emphasized that there are currently no objective reasons for evacuating the population. "There are no grounds for evacuating from the city of Sumy at this time," said Hryhorov, highlighting that the situation along the contact line remains complex but is fully under the control of Ukrainian armed forces. He noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other security and defense agencies are making every effort to ensure the safety of residents. The head of the regional state administration also drew attention to the spread in media and social networks of emotional statements that cause anxiety among citizens. He urged people to trust only official sources of information and hopes that residents will be cautious in their assessment of the situation to avoid panic and unnecessary worries. Additionally, Oleg Hryhorov emphasized that a planned evacuation of the population is ongoing in the region from 213 settlements in 18 front-line communities. Over the past week, about 900 citizens have been evacuated from the region, and this work continues in accordance with the established safety plan. He stated that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and neither underestimate nor overestimate the potential threats. The regional head underscored that local authorities are working in close cooperation with the military and law enforcement agencies to ensure maximum safety for citizens, and in case of any changes in the security situation, they will promptly inform the population. For now, the situation remains under control, and panic is unnecessary. Hryhorov called on residents to stay calm and rely only on verified official information to avoid spreading rumors and unnecessary anxiety.
