As a result of a massive strike carried out by Russian forces on Kharkiv on Saturday, the number of casualties has significantly increased. According to the latest data, at least 41 people have been wounded, and one woman has died. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on his official Telegram microblog, emphasizing that this attack was just the latest in a series of thousands of assaults by Russian forces on the city’s civilian infrastructure. According to the head of state, the situation is extremely serious and requires immediate action from the international community. Zelensky stressed that the attack on Kharkiv is not simply an act of military aggression but a targeted act of terrorism against the civilian population. “This has been over three years of full-scale Russian war, and such atrocities have no military rationale. This is an act of terror that must be strongly condemned and which MUST be stopped,” the president declared. He called on the international community not to stand aside or ignore the unprecedented levels of violence, which are turning the city into a battlefield where not only buildings are being destroyed but human lives as well. “Every day, we lose our citizens, and the reason for this is the impunity of the aggressor. Russia must face fair accountability and moral pressure. Strict enforcement of peace is necessary to stop this humanitarian catastrophe,” Zelensky emphasized. What factors contributed to this tragedy? Reports indicate that around 17:35, Russian troops carried out another massive strike on Kharkiv, using four guided aircraft bombs. The main targets were in the Shevchenkivskyi and Kyivskyi districts of the city. As a result of this incident, several infrastructure facilities and residential buildings were destroyed. In total, it is known that during the shelling, a 30-year-old employee of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways), who was near the impact site, was killed. At least 18 residents received injuries of varying severity, four of whom are railway workers. Several infrastructure objects were damaged in the attack, including two children's railway buildings, four train carriages, private homes, and household structures. Additionally, numerous private residences and vital infrastructure objects have been damaged within the city, considerably complicating the lives of local residents and deepening the humanitarian crisis in the region. Local authorities and rescue services are working intensively to provide assistance to the affected and assess the extent of the destruction. This new act of aggression once again confirms the danger posed by the Russian war and underscores the urgent need for swift and decisive actions by Ukrainian authorities and international partners to protect civilians and halt the destructive shelling. Kharkiv has long been a symbol of Ukrainian resilience in the face of aggression, but each new attack threatens the lives of hundreds of local residents and destroys their homes and hopes for a peaceful future.
