Led by the Minister of Economy, Yulia Sviridenko, this delegation is already in Washington, D.C., where the agenda includes discussions on further sanctions against Russia, strengthening Ukraine’s defense potential, and exploring ways to resolve the most acute military and political issues. According to Ukrainian sources, including official statements from the Office of the President, during the visit, the Ukrainian delegation will meet with high-ranking officials from the U.S. administration and members of Congress. The main goal is to reach an agreement on tightening existing restrictions on Russia, including the possible adoption of a new bill by Senator Lindsey Graham, aimed at significantly expanding economic pressure on the aggressor country. Additionally, plans include discussing the creation of a joint investment fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction, which will become a key instrument for restoring infrastructure, the economy, and the housing sector after the devastating effects of the war. The meetings will also address the return of Ukrainian children kidnapped by Russia, as well as the role of Russian propaganda, particularly in the context of church affairs — as reported by Andriy Yermak, the Head of the Office of the President. “We have numerous meetings scheduled with representatives of both political parties that support Ukraine. We plan to inform the Americans about the outcomes of the recent Istanbul talks, as well as the situation on the frontlines. We believe that Russia continues to drag out time, avoiding real negotiations and deliberately prolonging the war to intensify its destructive consequences,” Yermak stated in a comment for Ukrainian media outlets. As a reminder, recently the White House confirmed that incumbent U.S. President Donald Trump does not rule out the possibility of participating in a new summit between Ukraine and Russia leaders, which could address the most pressing issues related to the war. The idea of such a meeting also has support from Turkey, which hopes to facilitate its organization. According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey is making every effort to bring together Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Vladimir Putin in Istanbul or Ankara. This matter is currently being actively discussed at the highest level and presents a breakthrough opportunity for seeking a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict, which has lasted over a year and caused extensive human and economic losses.
