In mid-June, as a result of a missile attack by Russian forces, artillery fire once again sounded in the village of Kivsharivka in Kupiansk district of Kharkiv region, causing severe consequences for the local residents. According to official information published by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, two women died as a result of the shelling that occurred on June 2 around 4:30 p.m. This is yet another tragic example of how war destroys lives and devastates peaceful existence in occupied and frontline territories. According to the investigation, Russian troops deliberately targeted the residential area of Kivsharivka, using artillery and mechanized weapons. As a result of this shelling, a 64-year-old woman, who was at her home, was killed; she became an unintended victim of the enemy attack. Additionally, a 62-year-old local resident was seriously injured. Medical personnel were unable to save her life, and she also died at the scene. The incident has received wide attention from law enforcement authorities. In response to the tragedy, the Kupiansk District Prosecutor's Office has already initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — "Violations of the laws and customs of war that caused the death of people." This is one of the main articles qualifying military crimes committed during armed conflict. The surnames of the victims are not currently disclosed, but the investigation and relevant agencies are actively working to establish all circumstances of the tragedy. Procedural steps are underway, including scene examinations, witness interviews, and expert analyses. The Prosecutor's Office emphasizes that the investigation aims not only to establish the true picture of the incident but also to hold all perpetrators and organizers of war crimes accountable. This tragedy once again highlights the price the Ukrainian people pay for Russia’s aggression. War destroys not only infrastructure but also the lives of ordinary people, leaves defenseless victims, and leaves deep wounds in the hearts of families. Just as in the past, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies strive to conduct a comprehensive and objective investigation into all aspects of this tragedy and to draw the world's attention to the war crimes committed by the aggressor. Ongoing investigative actions continue, and the entire country, with vigilant hearts, hopes that justice will prevail and those responsible will be held accountable. It remains important to remember the victims and their families and to continue fighting for the truth and justice in Ukraine.
