Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a nighttime address to the Ukrainian people, expressed his concern about the lack of specific information regarding the purpose of the Russian delegations gathering in Istanbul. According to him, by Saturday evening, the Ukrainian side, its international partners, and Turkish organizers did not have clear data on what exactly the negotiations were meant to address and what agreements Russia might attempt to propose. This has caused disappointment and some skepticism about the seriousness of the Russian side’s intentions. In his address, Zelensky emphasized that the situation around the upcoming negotiations is entirely uncertain. “At this moment, in Turkey, in the United States — everywhere — there is no clear information about Russia’s plans. This raises concerns and calls into question their sincerity and readiness for genuine dialogue,” the president stated. He assured that Ukraine is actively preparing for further diplomatic steps and maintains contacts with European partners as well as with Washington. According to Zelensky, Ukrainian diplomats and politicians are in daily contact with international colleagues, striving to make diplomacy more thoughtful and effective. “We are continually working to ensure that diplomacy becomes a real instrument for ending the war,” the head of state emphasized. The Ukrainian leader highlighted the importance of global cooperation and expressed hope that world leaders will believe in the necessity of ending the conflict. “Everyone wants diplomacy to operate at full capacity and for the Russian side to finally stop playing games in a deadlock, because the war must come to an end,” he said. Zelensky added that Ukraine has already set its agenda for future negotiations and hopes that the United States and other countries will be decisive in implementing sanctions and other measures to help achieve peace. The head of state also noted that the agenda includes not only diplomacy but also pressure from international partners to ensure Russia takes the process seriously and halts its aggressive actions. “We believe that all global powers, including the US and Turkey, will play their roles in quickly establishing justice and peace on Ukrainian soil,” Zelensky concluded, emphasizing the importance of unity and decisive actions in this critical situation.
