" Ukraine and Germany continue to conduct behind-the-scenes discussions about the possible supply of Taurus cruise missiles, but official circles refrain from public comment on this issue. President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed this in an interview with RTL, suggesting that negotiations are ongoing and will remain confidential. Talks about potentially replenishing Ukraine’s arsenal with these high-precision missiles remain under wraps, and official information is tightly controlled. According to the head of state, the Ukrainian side and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have fully agreed not to disclose certain aspects of the negotiations publicly. Zelensky emphasized that he promised Scholz to refrain from discussing details with the media and is honoring that commitment. "We are working in this direction," he stated, "but there are topics that will remain between us. I promised him that, and I am fulfilling that." When asked about the possibility of supplying Taurus missiles, he did not give a definitive answer but confirmed that these issues are being discussed and are on the Ukrainian agenda. Earlier, during his previous remarks, Scholz indicated the potential for supplying Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, stressing that "within possible limits" — this potential option remains open. However, since Scholz’s government assumed power in early May 2023, German officials have largely refrained from commenting on specific arms supplies to Ukraine. Additionally, it should be noted that voices within the conservative CDU/CSU bloc in Germany are increasingly calling for further consideration of supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine. This issue, on the one hand, sparks differing opinions within authorities, and on the other hand, has become a subject of diplomatic and military discussions that remain closed to the public. Nevertheless, the official stance of Germany continues to be cautious and reserved, and behind-the-scenes negotiations and agreements only confirm that the question of transferring Taurus missiles to Ukraine remains outside the public realm for now and is delicately discussed at the highest levels. Mutual diplomacy and careful wording aim not only to maintain confidentiality but also to avoid unnecessary political complications at a time when both countries coordinate their steps amid the ongoing conflict.
