Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made a sharp forecast regarding the situation around the war in Ukraine, urging the world to pay attention to the approaching critical moment in the conflict
After meeting with Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Di Kyiv in Kyiv on Friday, the diplomat emphasized that the war between Russia and Ukraine could change course in the very near future, with decisive consequences for both sides and for the international community as a whole. In his speech, Fidan highlighted that the world is approaching a critical point in this long-lasting conflict and pointed out two possible paths for the further development of the situation. According to him, all interested parties must choose: either ignore the continuation of the war and become entangled in an even larger and ongoing conflict, or strive to achieve a lasting and just peace this year. He believes that this is exactly what is hoped for during the negotiations held in Istanbul on May 16, and that these negotiations demonstrate the potential for a diplomatic resolution of the situation. The head of Turkey's Foreign Ministry also stated that the negotiation process between Kyiv and Moscow is not only an attempt to find temporary solutions but also a new step in diplomatic tools capable of changing the scale of the conflict. According to his words, a positive sign is the exchange of prisoners following the Istanbul meeting, which is considered a significant indication of the possible willingness of both sides to engage in dialogue and achieve tangible results. Fidan also emphasized that the international community must be prepared for developments, as the risk of prolonging the war and escalation remains high. Such statements confirm the concerns of many countries worldwide regarding the prospect of the conflict dragging on and call for more active efforts to seek a diplomatic solution. At the same time, Ukrainian politicians and international experts more frequently speak about the need not to lose hope and to work persistently towards peace, and this visit of the Turkish minister adds a new impetus to these efforts. Thus, all eyes are currently on future actions, as their outcome will depend not only on the geopolitical situation in Ukraine but also on stability in a broader region and the world as a whole.
