The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, provided a comprehensive overview of combat results for May, emphasizing the significance of unmanned systems in modern warfare

According to him, Ukrainian drones of various modifications were able to target and destroy over 89,000 objectives of Russian occupiers this month, significantly enhancing the combat capability of our defense forces and demonstrating the effectiveness of reconnaissance drones on the battlefield. In an interview published on Syrsky’s Facebook page, he noted that the gradual expansion of UAV units is valuable, as it allows for tangible results at the front. "Systematic work with continuous growth in the number of crews and the development of UAV units yields a concrete, perceptible effect," he emphasized. The military leader stated that thanks to this systematic approach, our defenders have the opportunity to more actively eliminate the enemy and also significantly complicate its logistics and command connectivity. During the monthly meeting dedicated to the application and development of unmanned technologies, Syrsky reviewed a report from military intelligence regarding recent changes in the structure and armament of the Russian army. Specifically, there was discussion about the active formation of enemy UAV units, as well as the influx of new types of drones and ground robotic complexes into Russian service. Following the discussion, Syrsky noted that Russia is actively copying Ukraine’s experience in creating UAV units and is striving to scale them up quickly. This confirms a trend toward systematic expansion of UAV infrastructure within Russian command and may indicate their intention to develop a more mobile and autonomous military machine. The Commander-in-Chief emphasized that Ukraine must maintain and accelerate the development of its own UAV systems so as not to fall behind the enemy technologically. "We need to stay one step ahead by continuously developing our capabilities," he added. An important aspect of this work is not only increasing the number of operators and combat drones but also strengthening countermeasures against enemy UAVs, including destroying their operators and control points. Special attention during the meeting was given to modern unmanned ground complexes that are already actively used in combat. These systems perform a wide range of functions: logistical support, evacuation of the wounded, mine clearance, and even combat actions within combat modules. Syrsky stated that compared to 2024, Ukrainian forces have significantly increased the supply and deployment of such complexes, as well as substantially expanded the training of specialists in managing unmanned ground systems. This allows for rapid adaptation to changing situations and providing Ukrainian troops with all necessary means for modern warfare. In summary, it can be concluded that Ukrainian defense widely employs advanced technologies, effectively combining UAV reconnaissance and target destruction systems in an effort to maintain a strategic advantage over the enemy. The scale-up of personnel and technical potential of these units is key to success in prolonged combat, and examples of a fleet of modern UAVs and ground complexes affirm that Ukraine is on a non-losing path of technological modernization of its military forces.
