The nighttime alarm in the Donetsk region turned into a real nightmare for residents of the small town of Bilozerke. Around 2 a.m. on May 30, Russian occupiers used an unmanned aerial vehicle to launch an attack on residential buildings, which ended with serious consequences. According to local prosecutors, as a result of this attack, two civilians were wounded, including an adult woman and a 16-year-old teenager, with injuries of varying severity. Both victims were in their apartment when the drone and missile strike occurred. The source of this official information is the press service of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, which shared details of the incident on Telegram: “At 02:30, Russian occupiers carried out an attack on Bilozerke. An enemy ‘Geran-2’ drone hit a five-story residential building. As a result of the strike, a fire broke out in the building, quickly spreading to the roof and several floors,” the statement reads. “A 40-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son sustained injuries. Both were promptly taken to medical facilities and received necessary assistance.” According to medical professionals, those affected were diagnosed with mine-explosive injuries and signs of carbon monoxide poisoning due to the building’s ignition. Specialists are working to stabilize their condition; it has been established that both residents are currently in satisfactory or near-normal condition. Another fact highlights the level of targeted precision and advanced technology employed by Russian forces in eastern Ukraine. This is not the first time the occupiers have used drones for attacks that cause immense destruction and human suffering. In summer 2023, Ukrainian defenders recorded an increasing number of drone attacks, including using “Geran-2,” Shahed-type drones, and ballistic missiles such as Iskander-M and KN-23. This tragic nighttime incident in Bilozerke is one among many manifestations of this complex situation. According to official reports, since the evening of May 29, Ukraine’s air defense forces have intercepted 56 of about 90 attacking drones and missiles launched by Russian troops, aiming to strike strategic targets, settlements, and infrastructure facilities across various regions, including Kharkiv, Odesa, and, of course, Donetsk. Despite high levels of protection and the destruction of many drones, Russian aggressors continue their offensive tactics: they persist in attacking Ukrainian cities and villages, attempting to influence the course of the conflict in their favor. These missile and drone operations result in damage to civilian infrastructure, prolonged panic among the population, and an increase in the number of wounded and casualties. Local authorities and rescue services urge residents to stay vigilant, follow safety protocols during alarms, and strengthen air defense measures. Citizens are also advised not to panic and to remain attentive to official messages and recommendations. Overall, the situation in the region remains tense. The losses borne by Ukrainian communities in this struggle are not only material but also human. As officials state, the so-called “significant” strikes carried out with drones and missiles demonstrate that the war continues, and the enemy from the Kremlin has no intention of stopping until it achieves its goals. Ukrainian defenses are fighting back, destroying many of the enemy’s objectives, but each new incident reminds us that the war is not over, and every day brings new challenges and dangers. In this context, it is important to consolidate efforts, support those affected, and continue defending the country. The fight for peace and security in our state is not only a military matter but also a responsibility shared by every Ukrainian who wishes to preserve independence and peace in their home.
