The White House Expresses Optimism Regarding Progress in Negotiations Between Ukraine and Russia

Washington Hopes Diplomats' Efforts Will Restore Movement Around Ukraine, Believing a New Meeting Between Kyiv and Moscow Is Possible Soon The U.S. administration is hopeful that diplomatic efforts will help turn the situation around regarding Ukraine, believing that a new meeting between Kyiv and Moscow could take place in the near future. According to representatives of the Biden administration, the key step in this direction will be the resumption of direct negotiations in Istanbul, which they hope will happen next week. This was stated during the daily briefing on Thursday by White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt. She informed that the U.S. administration views this prospect as a crucial moment to change the dynamics of the conflict and called on the parties to engage in dialogue. Leavitt emphasized that in Washington, there is a strong belief that after this meeting, the situation surrounding the military conflict could again move forward productively. "We very much hope that Ukraine and Russia will gather at the negotiating table next week, and we believe these negotiations will happen," she assured. Additionally, she noted that the Trump administration is strongly urging both sides to find a compromise and pursue peaceful agreements to avoid further escalation of the war and human losses. The spokesperson highlighted that U.S. President Donald Trump advocates resolving the conflict diplomatically—at the negotiating table rather than on the battlefield. She reminded that Trump has openly expressed support for diplomatic efforts and emphasized the importance of seeking a peaceful settlement that would ensure long-term peace and stability in the region. "We hope that this upcoming week will be pivotal in resolving the conflict, and that the situation will once again gain momentum," Leavitt said. On Wednesday, Moscow officially announced its intention to return to the negotiation process with Ukraine in Istanbul as early as Monday, June 2. According to Russian diplomats, during future talks, Russia plans to present a "memorandum" with its proposals for ending the war and establishing a ceasefire regime. At the same time, Russian officials assert that this document will contain key standard provisions aimed at conflict resolution. Amid these statements, Kyiv stressed that before starting negotiations, Ukrainian delegations want to familiarize themselves in advance with Russia’s "memorandum" to carefully analyze its content and determine their position. Representatives of Ukraine added that achieving positive results requires adequate time to study the proposals so as not to make rash decisions that could hinder the process by ignoring important details. In the context of recent days, global diplomatic circles are discussing possible developments surrounding the military conflict. There is growing hope that diplomacy can prevail over escalation. However, experts warn that any negotiations require genuine willingness from both sides and an unspoiled desire to truly find a compromise, as time is rapidly running out. The coming week is seen as critical for possibly returning to diplomatic dialogue and seeking peace, which Ukrainian society and the international community have long been yearning for.
