Zelensky emphasized: the USA will not support Ukraine’s retreat from territories it controls
In a recent communication with journalists, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once again reaffirmed the unchanging position of the United States regarding Ukraine's territorial integrity. According to him, the USA categorically will not support any plan to withdraw Ukrainian troops and territories seized from Ukrainian control, implying that the Ukrainian government cannot expect their support if there is a decision to give up part of the occupied lands. Source: "Interfax-Ukraine" During his conversation with journalists, Zelensky stated: "There is no point in paying attention to ultimatums or papers if it is not just about some formal documents but about real steps that could lead to a ceasefire. In my opinion, at the leadership level of the USA today, it is clear that they do not support and will not make concessions regarding Ukraine’s withdrawal from the territories it currently controls." He made this affirmation in the context of discussing the issue of crossing a river and potential compromises aimed at peace, but without any agreement from the USA regarding surrendering any parts of Ukrainian territory. At the same time, Zelensky emphasizes that the Ukrainian side does not wish for the USA to withdraw from the negotiation process or to challenge diplomacy and efforts toward peace. "These are very important issues for us. Studying them thoroughly in a genuine dialogue, working together — this is our main priority. Therefore, we would prefer that our American partners do not withdraw from these negotiations or from the process of finding ways to peacefully resolve the conflict," Zelensky stated. This indicates that Kyiv values joint diplomatic work and aims to maintain unity with international allies in the pursuit of peaceful settlement. Referring to previous events, it should be noted that ahead of this, U.S. President Donald Trump made quite sharp statements about Russian leader Vladimir Putin on his social media platform, Truth Social. Trump called Putin “completely insane,” warning that if Russia attempts to seize all Ukrainian territories, it could have catastrophic consequences for Russia itself. Trump cautioned: “If Putin tries to take over Ukraine completely, it will lead to Russia’s inevitable downfall.” These remarks further underscore the tense diplomatic atmosphere surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, where the USA and its leaders cautiously yet firmly convey their positions regarding any potential concessions from Ukraine. Overall, the position of Ukrainian leadership remains clear: any negotiations about relinquishing parts of occupied territories should be guided solely by the current international and military context, with the USA being a key ally in this. At the same time, Kyiv once again calls on the world to act consensually and purposefully to preserve the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, emphasizing that it is not only about land but also about the future of the Ukrainian people and their rights to independence and peace.
