According to the Ukrhydrometcenter, during this period, unstable weather will prevail, somewhat dampening the mood of many residents just before the beginning of summer. Meteorologists report that from May 29 to May 31, short-term rains are expected in most regions of Ukraine. During the first days of this period, thunderstorms may occur, especially on the Left Bank on May 29, when thunderstorm activity will be localized during the daytime. Overall, during these days, air temperatures will range from 8 to 15 degrees Celsius at night, which is quite cool for late May. Daytime temperatures will rise to 18-25 degrees, but in the western regions, they will stay within 13-20 degrees. Special attention should be paid to the weather on May 29, when the western regions will often experience rain, and thunderstorms may occur locally during the day. On May 30 and 31, the likelihood of precipitation will decrease, and it will mostly be dry, except for some areas in the east and south of the country. There, short-term rains may occur sporadically, but overall, the weather will be more stable. Temperature regimes during these days will not change significantly, remaining within 13 to 20 degrees during the day in the western regions, and will stay within these ranges. Regarding wind, its direction will shift from southeast to northwest, with speeds of 5 to 10 meters per second, adding a sense of coolness and potentially causing gusts, especially during thunderstorms. In the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, the weather will fluctuate with periods of rain. On Thursday, May 29, moderate rain is expected throughout the day. During the night, temperatures will drop to 13-15 degrees, and during the day, they will rise to around 20 degrees. Winds will predominantly come from the southeast at speeds of 7-12 meters per second, amplifying the feeling of coolness and discomfort during rainfall. The following days — May 30 and 31 — will see variable weather in the capital. No precipitation is forecasted at night, with temperatures around 13-15 degrees. In the morning, short showers may occur, and temperatures will rise to about +21°C during the day. Winds will continue from the southeast or southwest at 5-10 meters per second. Such weather is typical for the late May period and once again confirms the environment of Ukraine’s transitional season, prone to fluctuations and temporary instability. Therefore, Ukrainians should prepare for unexpected rains and thunderstorms during this time, when summer is not yet fully established in the calendar, and the weather actively fluctuates. It’s important to consider these weather characteristics when planning walks, trips, and outdoor activities. Also, one should be ready for possible transportation delays and changes in daily plans due to weather conditions, which aim to ensure the comfort and safety of residents during these days. Overall, the last days of May will contribute to a range of natural phenomena, as worsening weather across the country is expected to bring short-term downpours, thunderstorms, and significant temperature swings. This reminds us of the importance of paying close attention to weather forecasts and regularly checking meteorological updates for safety and comfort during this challenging but characteristic transitional season.
