In Moscow, there is active discussion about a new episode of so-called attacks and, at the same time, measures to protect the city from unmanned drones
According to official reports from the city authorities, the Russian capital was once again struck by unmanned aerial vehicles, which has caused significant alarm among residents and raised questions about the state of the country’s air defense. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that Russia’s air defense allegedly successfully repelled attacks from thirteen unmanned lethal devices aimed at the city. According to the official, at least 12 enemy drones were destroyed during the night of May 27-28. These figures reflect the efforts of the drone countermeasure systems, which, according to authorities, managed to intercept devices that penetrated the city’s zone. At the same time, due to safety concerns for passenger transportation, the operation of Moscow’s two airports — Vnukovo and Zhukovsky — was temporarily suspended. This decision was made to ensure the safety of passengers and staff amid reports of active city defense against unmanned aircraft. The background of this event includes important details: the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the evening before that, from 9:00 PM to midnight Moscow time on May 27, their air defense intercepted and destroyed 112 so-called Ukrainian drones attempting to penetrate into Russian territory. These reports have sparked numerous questions and discussions among military experts and analysts, as the scale and effectiveness of such actions remain subjects of debate and speculation. It is still unclear to what extent these reports reflect reality and whether there was indeed a large-scale attack attempt on Moscow during the night of May 27–28, or if this is another manifestation of propaganda and information warfare between the parties. Some sources agree that the situation around drone attacks in the Russian capital and its surroundings is becoming increasingly tense, which is confirmed by strengthened security measures and an increase in the number of drones destroyed. Against this backdrop, reports regularly appear about restrictions in transportation infrastructure and airport closures in Moscow and nearby areas, indicating that the situation remains tense and difficult to control. Meanwhile, opposition experts and independent analysts note that official statements often have political undertones, and there may be manipulations aimed at demonstrating combat activity and increasing mobilization among the population. Thus, the situation in Moscow and its surroundings continues to be one of the main topics of discussion among military, political, and civil circles. At the same time, many experts urge caution regarding official information, awaiting additional confirmations and developments in the coming days.
