This was announced at a high level during a meeting of the defense ministers of both countries in Berlin, where Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov signed an important document outlining agreements on funding the production of long-range weapons of Ukrainian origin. According to the German minister, the support spans a wide range of weaponry and resources, with the total funding amount reaching a significant 5 billion euros. The details of the agreement envisage not only financing the direct transfer of weapons in the short term but also creating opportunities for the large-scale development of Ukraine’s defense industrial sector. For instance, the first long-range systems—already in service with the Ukrainian armed forces—could be transferred to the Defence Forces in the coming weeks, without requiring additional training for personnel, as they have already undergone relevant adaptation. The German Ministry of Defense estimates that in 2025, a substantial amount of long-range weapons will be produced within the framework of the new program, although specific figures have not yet been disclosed. Additionally, Germany confirms its readiness to continue supplying artillery shells, air defense systems, ground vehicles, and small arms to strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. As part of cooperation with the German defense enterprise Diehl, a contract has been signed for the supply of air defense systems and related munitions, which will further enhance Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defenses. Furthermore, in support of developing modernization infrastructure, the creation of modern repair facilities on Ukrainian territory is planned. An open prospect is the establishment of a joint venture between Ukrainian and German defense companies, aimed at significantly strengthening the Ukrainian military’s ability to maintain and service the supplied weapons. Another important aspect of the agreements concerns medical support and communications. Ukraine will receive necessary assistance in these critical areas to ensure military combat readiness and effective coordination during hostilities. This is not the first recent Ukraine-Germany military deal. As previously noted, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz reaffirmed Germany’s willingness to expand military aid to Kyiv. However, he refrained from disclosing specific details of the new assistance policy, citing its limited scope within the broader strategy. Merz also emphasized the importance of preventing the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is considered one of the tools to counter Russian energy aggression. Overall, the new arrangements demonstrate Germany and its partners’ resolute intention to support Ukraine both militarily and economically, strengthening its defense capabilities amid ongoing war and relentless Russian pressure. This is an important signal to the international community that Europe continues to stand by Ukraine, allocating significant resources for its defense and recovery.
