The President of the United States, Donald Trump, openly stated that he is currently holding back from introducing additional restrictive measures against Russia because he believes this could negatively impact progress in negotiations to resolve the conflict and the signing of significant agreements. According to reports from "European Pravda," during his visit to the White House on Wednesday, Trump noted that his decision is driven by one thing — being cautious and not harming the potential deal. "I don’t want to take steps that might spoil the process again. If I believe we are on the verge of signing an important agreement, I will do everything possible to preserve it and prevent anything that could ruin it," emphasized the U.S. president. He also indicated that he understands the importance of applying pressure and possesses significant tools to do so, but currently, strategic caution is his priority. "It's important for me to know when and how to use force to achieve the best outcome," Trump added. At the same time, he emphasized that his stance on the Ukraine conflict is not personal but part of a global confrontation involving other leaders — President Zelensky, Vladimir Putin, and the White House administration. "This is not my war, this is not my immediate issue. I am here to see if I can end this war, save thousands of lives, and save billions of dollars spent on supporting it," Trump explained. Against the backdrop of Russia’s recent statements about intensifying airstrikes on Ukraine and increasing regional tensions, the former U.S. president has repeatedly raised the issue of possible additional sanctions against Moscow. According to American publication The Wall Street Journal, Trump is indeed considering the possibility of introducing new restrictions in the coming weeks, but no final decision has been made yet. U.S. officials say that the current deliberations are related to assessing the situation and choosing the optimal moment for maximum effect. Additionally, Trump noted that managing the situation with Russia and Ukraine requires tactics and the ability to "know when and how to apply force." He reiterated that he believes Russia’s recent actions and statements indicate an intention to reach agreements and that now is not the time for hasty new sanctions. According to him, "in a week and a half to two weeks," he will be able to better assess whether Vladimir Putin’s words about easing tensions and finding peace in the region are truthful. Such statements from Trump demonstrate his desire to approach interference in the conflict prudently and indicate openness to diplomatic solutions, even ahead of possible new steps in Washington’s policy towards Russia. At the same time, experts raise questions about whether Trump’s approach will actually contribute to a quicker end to the war or whether it might risk prolonging the conflict and triggering new escalations.
