A dangerous and tragic stalemate continues in the territories controlled by Russian troops in Sumy region

On May 28, powerful strikes by the Russian army once again hit this area, resulting in human casualties and destruction. The most tragic news was the death of a 74-year-old woman in the settlement of Esman, who was killed during an attack with guided aerial bombs dropped on civilian infrastructure in the region. This was reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration, which highlighted the destruction and devastation caused by the Russian strikes. According to the department, this tragedy was the result of another attack by Russian forces, accompanied by systematic shelling of residential neighborhoods and public facilities in the region. The body of the pensioner was found and uncovered from the debris of a destroyed building. This is a stark example of how vulnerable civil infrastructure is and how many lives the war continues to take. In the past day, human casualties and injuries among civilians have been recorded again in the region. As a result of enemy attacks, nine residents were wounded: four in the Yunakivska community, three in Okhtyrka, and two in Krasnopillia. The situation remains tense, as Russian troops continue shelling in an attempt to undermine the peace of peaceful residents and destroy critical infrastructure. Since May 27, large-scale evacuation measures from dangerous areas have been ongoing. Over the past four days, more than 500 people have been evacuated from over two hundred settlements in the region that are under threat of shelling. This is a complex but necessary process that helps save civilian lives and reduce casualties. Evacuation is still ongoing, considering the threat of new strikes. In the context of the current situation, it is important to note that control over certain settlements in Sumy region is under Russian influence. As of May 27, reports from the regional military administration indicated that under Russian control are the settlements of Novenke and Basivka in the Yunakivska community, as well as Veselivka and Zhuravka in the Khotinska community. This means that the war not only destroys infrastructure and claims lives but also grants the enemy control over part of the region, complicating the situation for local residents and government authorities. The war in Sumy region has been ongoing for a long time, and each new day brings new challenges for the Ukrainian population. Local authorities urge residents to stay in shelters, follow safety rules, and stay informed about possible shelling. Meanwhile, civil society and volunteers continue working to support those affected, facilitate timely evacuation, and restore destroyed areas. However, they warn: the war is still far from over, and human tragedies will, unfortunately, remain a part of life during this conflict for a long time.
