In response to recent Ukrainian-Russian combat actions and the political buzz surrounding the conflict, U.S. State Department spokesperson Temmy Bruce issued a sharp statement emphasizing that instead of discussing statements made by former President Donald Trump, Russia should concentrate its efforts on seeking ways to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine. According to her, the issue of peace and stability must become the main priority for the Russian Federation, and only then will it be possible to take concrete steps toward ending the war. Regarding the Kremlin’s reaction to criticism of U.S. President Vladimir Putin, who recently called his colleague "crazy" over missile strikes against Ukrainian targets, Bruce stressed that Washington takes the situation seriously and insists that the Russian side hear the voices of Ukrainian citizens and understand that their lives and security are at stake. She highlighted that currently Donald Trump is determined: he aims to end the wars initiated before he took office, and his comments on the situation reflect a deep interest in doing so. "If the Russian side truly cared about what is happening in Ukraine, it could focus more on real steps to stop the bloodshed and casualties than on trying to convey its point of view through statements or propaganda messages," Bruce stated in her comment. She believes that it is now evident where both sides stand in this confrontation — some seek a diplomatic resolution, while others focus on information warfare and actions that further deepen the crisis. At the same time, the diplomat recalled Trump's words about Putin, who "plays with fire," and indicated that such statements are not only expressions of the personal position of the 45th U.S. president but also a clear signal to Russia: "Washington reserves the right to take further steps. Russia must take these words seriously and consider them when planning its actions in the region." The recent extensive bombing of Ukrainian regions by Russia has sparked a new wave of concern and political activity in the U.S.. As is known, last week Donald Trump openly expressed his intention to intensify economic pressure on Moscow, already threatening to introduce additional sanctions. According to a well-known publication WSJ, the American leader is considering the possibility of imposing new restrictions as early as this week; however, no final decision has been made, and it depends on how the situation develops. Additionally, media reports state that Trump is seriously contemplating lifting some or all of the restrictions that the U.S. imposed during the Biden administration regarding Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. This means that Washington may significantly revise its policy approaches toward Russia, which could impact the geopolitical balance in the region and alter the format of support for Ukraine. Overall, U.S. politics currently remain tense regarding potential scenarios for the conflict’s development, with Washington’s ability to influence the situation through diplomatic or economic tools remaining a priority. However, the main message to Moscow is: well done, but it’s time to think about pathways to peace and stop playing with fire, which could have devastating consequences for global security.
