In the settlement of Zmiivka, located in the southern part of the area, a local resident became a victim of a landmine explosion left after military operations. According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, a 47-year-old man was found on a anti-personnel "petal" type mine, which caused serious injuries and led to his prompt hospitalization. The military administration provides more details, noting that the incident happened on an ordinary day when the man was simply moving around the outskirts of the village. Unfortunately, without apparent awareness of the danger, he came into contact with an explosive device, which resulted in the tragic outcome. Experts state that during the detonation, the victim sustained a mine-explosive injury – fragments and shrapnel caused severe damage. The injury is particularly severe, involving the traumatic amputation of the foot – as a result of the blast, the man was left without part of his leg. In addition, the victim received injuries to his shin and hand, which require immediate medical assistance and further treatment. According to official information, he is currently hospitalized under round-the-clock medical supervision. His condition is stable, but psychological and physical rehabilitation are still ahead. It should be noted that incidents of this kind repeatedly emphasize the high risk of being in liberated and potentially dangerous areas of Kherson region. Since the start of active hostilities last year and the cessation of frontline combat, demining operations and territory clearance have become one of the most urgent tasks for local authorities and military services. Mines and explosives remain a major threat to local residents, especially for those returning home or engaged in economic activities. Local authorities urge residents to be extremely cautious and attentive, especially in areas that are still potentially mined. Demining work continues, but the process is lengthy and complicated by the scale of the damaged territory and the large number of undiscovered explosive devices. The Regional Military Administration reminds everyone that any suspicious object should be reported immediately to the relevant authorities, to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The events in Zmiivka once again demonstrate the need to accelerate demining processes and increase public awareness of the potential dangers concealed by these territories. Only through the joint efforts of the authorities, military, and local residents can the number of accidents be minimized and a safer environment created for everyone returning to their homes.
