Russian troops have once again intensified their presence in northern Sumy region, continuing attempts to establish a so-called “buffer zone” along the border
According to the leadership of the regional military administration, currently Russian occupiers control four settlements, aiding in strengthening their positions in this strategically important area of the country. As reported by Oleg Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the settlements of Novenke, Basivka (Yunakivska community), Veselivka, and Zhuravka (Khotinska community) are now under enemy control. "At the moment, these settlements are completely under the control of Russian forces. It is well known that the local population was evacuated earlier — the risks for civilians are minimal or nonexistent," he emphasized in a media statement. Additionally, Oleg Hryhorov stressed that the occupiers are not ceasing their efforts to expand their presence, advancing along the front line in hopes of creating a "buffer zone" to strengthen their positions and prevent counterattacks by Ukrainian forces. Military activity continues in the vicinity of several villages: Vodolaha, Volodymyrivka, Bilovody, Kostiantynivka, and Kindrativka, which belong to the Khotinska community. Russian troops are also concentrated near Lokhna (Yunakivska community). Ukrainian military units report a high level of combat readiness and the ability to withstand the enemy’s pressure. "Our defenders are keeping the situation under control, conducting pinpoint fire strikes against the enemy, and not allowing them to advance further into Sumy region," assured the head of the regional military administration. He noted that Ukrainian forces are not only maintaining the situation but also actively striking at the enemy’s positions, preventing Russian troops from consolidating and expanding their line of attack. From the controlled and protected sections of the front, Ukrainian soldiers are working quickly and decisively to ensure the safety of the civilian population and to restrain the aggressor’s attempts to solidify their presence in the north of the country. Local residents, who have also been warned about the situation, hope for a quick stabilization and a return to peaceful life in the war-affected regions. At the same time, the security of the region remains a priority for Ukrainian military and diplomatic leadership, who are exerting maximum efforts to end Russian aggressive actions.
