Night of Anxiety: Kyiv and Cherkasy Regions Hit Again by Russian Drones
On the night of May 26, Kyiv and Cherkasy regions once again found themselves at the epicenter of a kamikaze drone attack by Russia. According to official reports, during this night, the enemy intensified the use of strike UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), resulting in damage to residential buildings, outbuildings, and vehicles in strategic areas. Fortunately, there were no human casualties, but the consequences are quite significant and raise concerns among local residents and authorities. According to information released by Kyiv Mayor’s Office Head Timur Tkachenkо via Telegram, the night alarm lasted six long hours, during which Ukrainian air defenses repelled another attack involving a new wave of strike drones. The official stated that, as a result of this attack, significant damage occurred in the Dniprovsky district of the capital: windows were broken in one residential building. Additionally, debris and fragments of ammunition landed in a garage cooperative and a nearby recreational facility, creating additional danger and potential risks for residents. Authorities assured that despite the intensity of the shelling, no casualties or major destruction occurred. “It was without victims. Only property and infrastructure objects were affected,” Tkachenkо commented. He also added that in Kyiv Oblast, critical infrastructure objects were not damaged during the night attack: no hits on essential facilities were registered, and there are no casualties or injuries among the population. Local law enforcement documented damage to three private houses and outbuildings in the Boryspil district, as well as one residential building in the Fastiv district. In Bucha district, a vehicle was damaged by debris and shockwave. On the outskirts of Cherkasy Oblast, efforts by sappers and rescuers were focused on neutralizing 25 Russian strike drones, which were shot down by Ukrainian forces. Reports indicate that no injuries or casualties were recorded as a result of this night attack on Cherkasy region, and no reports of damage from debris have been submitted to relevant services. The territories are currently being inspected for potential additional destruction. As Cherkasy Military Administration Head Ihor Taburets noted, the consequences of the missile and drone attacks also affected other infrastructure objects. Specifically, in Uman, windows in a vocational college were damaged by the blast wave, a boiler room was destroyed, and a residential building suffered partial damage. This once again underscores the scale and danger of missile and UAV attacks by Russian occupiers, who seek to sow panic and destruction even in peacetime. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and not to ignore official warnings about air alarms. Ukrainian forces continue to work on strengthening air defense systems to prevent further destruction and to protect citizens’ lives and property. While the inspection of damaged territories and the elimination of the night’s shelling aftermath are ongoing, Ukrainians express cautious optimism: thanks to the coordinated efforts of the military and law enforcement agencies, new enemy attacks are being successfully repelled. Official sources emphasize that the enemy aims to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people and sow chaos, but Ukraine remains steadfast in its defense and prepares for any challenges.
