The Netherlands completes the transfer of the entire fleet of 24 F-16 fighters to Ukraine: the last aircraft is already en route to Kyiv
On Monday, May 26, an important milestone in Ukraine’s international military support from the Netherlands is officially scheduled to be completed — the transfer of the entire fleet of 24 multirole F-16 fighters, which was promised to Ukraine several months ago. This was announced by Dutch Defense Minister Rutte Beekmans during his speech on the program WNL op Zondag, emphasizing that by the end of the day, the last of these aircraft will arrive in Ukraine, thus confirming the completion of the agreement. According to Beekmans, this step marked a significant phase in the cooperation between the countries and represents a valuable contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the context of resisting Russian aggression. The minister highlighted that their support went beyond just transferring military equipment — the Netherlands actively trains Ukrainian pilots and technical specialists, and also shares combat doctrines and strategic approaches. In Beekmans’ words, this will enable Ukraine to build modern and effective armed forces capable of competing according to NATO standards and defending its territory against current challenges. “The transfer of aircraft is just the beginning. We are not only providing equipment; more importantly, we are helping the Ukrainian army become part of the European defense community. This aims for long-term strategic effects,” the defense minister pointed out. At the same time, Beekmans remained within the confines of official rhetoric: he stressed that the situation in Ukraine remains tense and that Vladimir Putin’s Russia continues to wage an aggressive war. According to him, the Kremlin clearly disregards any ceasefire agreements. “Putin is showing no intention of stopping his hostilities and seeks to achieve his goals repeatedly, despite international pressure and the resistance of the Ukrainian people,” he added. Sources in military and diplomatic circles report that the completion of the F-16 transfer from the Netherlands is a significant moment in the broader context of international assistance to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.
