On the night of May 24 to 25, Ukraine experienced one of the largest and most brutal missile and aviation attacks since the beginning of the war. According to official information from Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko, the number of victims and damages has rapidly increased. Preliminary reports indicate that at least 12 people have died as a result of the attack, with over 60 others injured of varying severity. The shelling affected 13 regions of the country, including Kyiv, Kyivska, Zhytomyrska, Khmelnytska, Ternopilska, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Sums, and Poltava regions. According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than 80 residential buildings were damaged during this large-scale attack, mostly in multi-story buildings and private settlements that have been left homeless. In total, 27 fires were recorded, with firefighters still battling three of them to prevent further destruction and the spread of flames. Civilian and social infrastructure objects were damaged as a result of the missile strikes and aviation attacks, further complicating the regions' daily life and creating additional difficulties for residents who have already endured many hardships. In a brief comment, Minister Ihor Klymenko stated: “As of now, over 70 people have been affected by the attack. More than 60 have sustained injuries. Unfortunately, there have been fatalities: 12 people lost their lives, including three children from one family in Zhytomyr region. Their parents have been hospitalized in serious condition, and the mother herself is fighting for her life in intensive care. This is yet another terrible confirmation that the civilian population has once again become a primary target of the war.” Additionally, it is important to note that according to the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night of May 25, the enemy carried out a massive combined strike using 367 air attack means, including missiles and drones. More than 310 of these means were destroyed or lost, demonstrating the seriousness and scale of this attack. Such actions evoke outrage and concern in Ukrainian society, as every new assault results not only in the destruction of homes but also in the breaking of human lives. The president and government assure that all recovery and aid agencies are fully prepared, but the consequences will require a long time to eliminate, and residents will need to return to normal life in the destroyed areas. This night serves as a stark reminder of the price Ukrainians pay for their independence and sovereignty, and confirms that the war, unfortunately, continues, and that recovery will require time, effort, and unity.
