An incident occurred in a local park in Nizhyn, which sparked widespread outrage and concern among residents and law enforcement agencies
According to official information, on May 25th, an explosion took place in the very center of the park area, linked to the use of a weapon — a grenade, which was the cause of the incident. Fortunately, no one sustained injuries as a result of the explosion; however, the event generated significant resonance and raised several questions about public safety. According to the Chernihiv police, investigative and operational teams promptly arrived at the scene to conduct the inspection and document all circumstances of the incident. No victims were found from the explosion, but law enforcement quickly detained a suspect believed to be involved. The suspect is a 44-year-old resident of Nizhyn — a local man who, according to preliminary information, was intoxicated at the time. Based on the obtained data, the man, being in an inebriated state, decided to have some fun and threw an unknown weapon — presumably a grenade — at the trees. The explosive device detonated in the park, creating a loud noise and posing a danger to anyone nearby. Fortunately, there were not many visitors in the park at that time, which helped prevent human casualties. Law enforcement authorities initiated a criminal case under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — hooliganism. The penalty for this statute can be imprisonment for up to seven years, indicating the seriousness of the suspicion against the detained individual. Immediately after the man's detention, necessary investigative actions, forensic examinations, and the collection of all relevant circumstances of the case were carried out. Preliminary information indicates that the suspect was heavily intoxicated, which likely contributed to his reckless and potentially dangerous behavior. Local authorities and police emphasize the need to take additional measures to prevent such incidents and ensure public safety in communal areas. While law enforcement has stabilized the situation and developed a further action plan, residents of Nizhyn await official investigation conclusions and the response of the relevant authorities.
