Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once again emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire, noting that it is the only possible condition for resolving the conflict
His comments came in response to the large-scale nighttime attack by Russia on Ukrainian infrastructure, which became one of the most extensive in the context of current hostilities. Addressing the nation via an official Telegram channel, Zelensky described the situation as "difficult and tense," drawing the world's attention to the fact that it is Moscow that is delaying the negotiations. According to the Ukrainian leader, Russian troops’ attacks repeat with one goal — to continue terror and to make peace talks an unattainable dream. "Every time explosions and missile strikes are heard, the world is convinced that the reason for the prolongation of the war lies in Moscow. Ukraine has repeatedly proposed a ceasefire, both in the air and on the ground, but all our initiatives are being ignored," Zelensky stressed. The president also called on the international community to intensify efforts and apply much stricter sanctions against Russia. In his opinion, this will be the only chance to force the Kremlin to sit at the negotiation table and start genuine diplomacy, capable of stopping the bloody conflict and resolving the unprecedented crisis caused by the neighboring country's aggression. In the context of the situation, Zelensky further emphasized that Ukraine expects more decisive actions from the USA, the European Union, and all international partners. "We hope that world leaders understand the importance and immediate need to strengthen sanctions against Russia to create substantial pressure and compel it to return to diplomacy," he stated. As a reminder, on the night of May 24, Ukrainian air defense forces recorded a massive shelling by Russian troops. According to operational data from the Ukrainian Air Forces, 14 ballistic missiles of the Iskander-M or KN-23 type were launched at Ukraine, along with over 250 attack drones. This was the largest attack in recent times, causing significant destruction across several regions and triggering a new wave of tension. Zelensky called on the global community for unity and more resolute actions in response to these aggressive acts and emphasized that Ukraine will not lose its right to live in peace and independence. At the same time, he underscored that the world must understand — without active measures and pressure, all of Ukraine’s efforts could remain fruitless, and the conflict risks turning into a prolonged and even more destructive war.
