According to the latest data, the number of documented cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by occupying forces has already exceeded 150. This means that, with each passing day, the scale of heinous crimes against Ukrainian heroes is increasing, causing genuine outrage among Ukrainian society and the international community. According to representatives of the GUR, they are not only documenting instances of murder of prisoners but have also received confirmation of direct orders to carry out such acts. Intelligence sources report that Russian occupiers are openly issuing commands to eliminate Ukraine’s defenders, which is a logical continuation of the policy of terror and dictatorial methods pursued by the Russian leadership in their war against our country. In this context, the position of international experts and organizations is of utmost importance, particularly that of the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Dr. Morris Tidball-Bintram. He confirmed that these executions recorded by Ukrainian intelligence could not have taken place without orders or consent from the higher echelons of the Kremlin leadership. This serves as a significant signal to the global community about the systemic nature of the crimes occurring in the temporarily occupied territories. The GUR emphasizes that the destruction of Ukrainian prisoners of war is not a coincidence or isolated incidents but a deliberate component of the Kremlin’s policy aimed at disintegrating Ukrainian resistance and eliminating its representatives. However, information about killings in captivity only confirms the level of brutality and unprecedented barbarism employed by Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied lands. It is worth recalling the tragic incident reported on the morning of May 22, which provides indisputable evidence of the occupiers’ cruelty. During an attempted assault on Ukrainian positions near the settlement of Udačne in the Pokrovsk district, Russian forces captured two Ukrainian defenders. However, these soldiers were subsequently brutally shot, representing yet another dark mark in the pattern of war crimes committed by the enemy. Overall, the situation is causing growing pain and concern across Ukraine, as it reflects a systemic policy of violence by the occupiers and their command. World leaders and international human rights organizations are calling for decisive action and immediate investigations into such crimes to bring the perpetrators to justice and halt this wave of lawlessness. At the same time, Ukraine continues to tenaciously fight for each of its defenders, opening new fronts of diplomatic and legal resistance to accelerate the accountability of the guilty and prevent further crimes by Russian occupiers.
