Rescuers demonstrate the scale of destruction caused by an enemy combined attack on Kyiv

On Monday morning, May 24th, Ukraine’s emergency services released horrific footage and evidence of the consequences of the latest missile and drone assault on the capital. This night became one of the most challenging in recent times due to rising tensions and increased enemy activity, which occurred even before the new day dawned. According to official information from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU), Kyiv was once again under fire — Russian forces conducted a combined attack that included the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ballistic missiles. As a result, large fires and destruction erupted across the city, requiring several hours for rescuers to extinguish and contain. In the Solom’yanskyi district of Kyiv, a fire broke out in one of the multi-storey residential buildings. Preliminary reports indicate that the fire started in apartments on the 4th and 5th floors of a five-story building. Rescue teams quickly responded to extinguish the flames, with over 30 firefighters and 8 special vehicles on site. Thanks to their efforts, the fire was promptly contained, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. During the firefighting operation, one rescuer managed to save a man who was then taken to medical professionals with a preliminary diagnosis of smoke inhalation. The victim was transported to a medical facility for further examination. Another incident occurred in the Obolonskyi district, where balconies in a nine-story residential building caught fire as a result of a Russian attack. According to rescuers, the fire broke out on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th floors. Three residents were safely evacuated — they were taken outside for fresh air and provided with assistance. Four other residents exhibiting symptoms of acute stress reactions were also taken to medical facilities. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the measures taken prevented further spread of the flames. Additionally, in the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out in a non-residential single-story structure that serves as a warehouse for paints and solvents. Due to a Russian missile strike, the flames reignited in the storage area. Ongoing efforts to extinguish the fire, conduct reconnaissance, and assess the extent of the destruction continue at the scene. Preliminary information indicates that details about possible casualties are being clarified and will be communicated further later. The SESU also emphasizes that as of now, the number of casualties and their condition are still being clarified. Evacuation and firefighting operations are ongoing in the city and its outskirts; all efforts are being made to stabilize the situation and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. The published photos display the scale of fires, destroyed buildings, and ongoing rescue operations despite challenging conditions. This night once again highlights the resilience and strength of Kyiv residents, as well as the urgent need for emergency services to act swiftly and cohesively in the difficult circumstances of wartime. Kyiv has once again proven that it is not only a symbol of Ukrainian resistance but also relentlessly fights to protect its inhabitants and infrastructure. Local authorities urge residents to stay vigilant, follow safety rules, and report any incidents arising from military actions. In light of recent events, there is hope for a quick stabilization of the situation and a return to normal life in the capital, which continues to stand firm amid the most difficult conditions of modern warfare.
